Zoomie was rescued from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina. He's about five or six years old. You may remember
Zoomie Zoom from the August, 2005 issue of the FloridaPets.net eZine, the NewsPetter.
"What can I say?" Tonya wrote when she submitted Zoomie's photo for our Pet of the Week feature, "He's just nutty!"
It appears Pearl and Zoomie's connection was more than just casual, however. Tonya said Zoom helped Pearlie when she ruptured both rear cruciate ligaments and no vet could help her.
"Zoom actually let Pearlie rest her weight on top of his little body when she stood up to go outside, going as far as
walking underneath her going down a flight of steps!" Tonya said, "Zoomie walked slowly
and carefully stayed right where she needed him to be."
Chinese Crested Hairless dogs are tiny, sweet and very playful. They are quite clean little dogs and are traditionally great with kids. Some Chinese Crested canines are hairless, like Zoomie Zoom, who has the signature mane and tufts of hair on his feet. Other Chinese Crested dogs have long hair and the same litter can actually produce some hairless pups and some with hair!
Despite its name, the Chinese Crested Hairless dog actually originated in Africa and later became the adored pets of
Chinese Mandarins. The breed is rare today and we have a feeling Zoomie is quite proud of that!
