Sable and Dixie, Soul Sisters

Meet Sable and Dixie, companions to Cory and Rebecca Englert of Jacksonville.

These are our girls. The black dog is Sable. She is 2 years and 5 months old. She is a Rottie/Shephard mix, one of a litter of puppies that were thrown out by a lake in the woods in Gainesville. A man my husband worked with lived near there and his kids were out riding their bikes and found them.We have had her since she was 10 weeks old.

The white dog is Dixie. She is just about two years old. She is a Jack Russell/Bull Terrier mix that we adopted from the Jacksonville Humane Society when she was 8 weeks old.

These two little ladies are our joy! They are inseparable. The two of them were soul sisters right from the beginning. You cannot tell from the pictures, but Dixie is about 32 pounds and Sable is about 62 pounds. When we first brought Dixie home she only weighed about 4 pounds and Sable was almost 40 pounds already. It was funny to see them play. Sable would lie on the ground and Dixie was so tiny, she couldn't even crawl over Sable. Sable was always gentle with her. We just kept telling Sable that Dixie was her baby sister. I am convinced she understood. She's never taken to another dog that way.

Sable is a real talker

She will carry on a verbal conversation with you. She is so hilarious! She talks to everybody she sees. She loves treats and playing in the backyard with her sister. She helped train Dixie when she was a puppy. I am convinced she is the reason Dixie was so easy to housetrain. Every morning she grabs her baby (stuffed toy) and brings it to my husband for him to throw. She chases it across the house and brings it back for more. They do this about 3 times every morning. She loves to play rough with my husband. He makes corny karate movie sounds at her and she goes crazy!
She likes to give kisses and loves to nibble on your earlobes.

Dixie is the affectionate one. She wants to crawl in your lap and lay on you. She will kiss any part of you that comes within her reach. If you walk by her, she will kiss a finger or an ankle or whatever she can. She has the fastest tongue on the planet!

Dixie's favorite toy is a rope

We have one with a handle on one end. She will viciously attack it and you can lift her off the ground and she will not let go. No matter where she is or what she is doing, if you pull out the rope or even say "rope", she will go nuts! Since her sister is so vocal, you'd think she would have started speaking early on too, but it's only been during the past few months we have taught her to speak. Now she says "PLEASE" over everything. Both of our girls have distinct personalities.
One thing is certain though: they couldn't live without each other.
