Pet Friendly Places to Play with Your Pet in Florida

Including parks, beaches and recreation areas

"If your dog poops, please scoop!"

Love to exercise your dog but the yard's not big enough? On vacation and don't know where your dog is allowed to be pawloose and fancy free? Want a roomy, safe, no-hassle place to spend some time with your canine pal?

Here's a list of pet friendly places to play in Florida, including beaches and dog parks, where your dog is welcome to romp. Some locations require leashes, other don't. Because we can't visit each one of these on a regular basis, we'd appreciate your help in keeping this list up to date. If you know of a pet friendly place to play in Florida not listed here, or know that one listed is now closed or restricted, please email FloridaPets.net.

About National Forests in Florida

This pertains to Apalachicola National Forest in Wakulla County, Ocala National Forest, mostly in Marion County, and Osceola National Forest, spread across both Baker and Columbia Counties:

According to the USDA Forest Service, dogs are permitted in national forests, but must be under physical restraint at all times when you are hiking. In campgrounds, dogs must be on a leash of not more than six feet and under control. Pets are not permitted in swimming/picnicking or day-use areas.

About Florida State Parks

As of March 1, 2006, pets are permitted in Florida State Parks, including the camping areas. This is a reversal from a former policy. For more information, please read State Park Pet Rules.

Top Beaches

Two Florida beaches made the list of America's Top Beaches for 2009, as designated by "Dr. Beach" as follows:

2. Siesta Beach, Siesta Key, Sarasota
8. Cape Florida State Park, Miami/Key Biscayne area

Unfortunately...neither of these beaches permit dogs.
