"Indie", short for "Independent"
"Come on in, but do it quietly, please. I'm busy napping here!"
Introduction: Hi, I'm Indie, a four-year-old Basenji. I live in Winter Park with my human companions, Kristen and Jesse Soyk. They found me at a rescue in Gainesville called Helping Hands. My humans had a Besenji for 14 years and they liked the breed so much they wanted another. Once they saw me, they were hooked and we've been a family since June 18, 2004.
My Likes & Dislikes: I hate, and I mean hate going outside when it’s raining. My human mom said during a lull in Hurricane Frances, she had to use an umbrella and her body to shield me from the rain (meanwhile getting thoroughly soaked herself) just so I’d do my duty. She actually had to pick me up and set me on the wet grass because I was unwilling to step foot on it myself. I wasn't trying to be mean, getting wet just creeps me out!
I love my naps, as you can see in the photo above. When I am not napping, I'm either playing with my plush green octopus, shown with me in the photo below, running what my humans call the "Basenji-500" around the house -- that's top speed -- or lazily watching some pet chinchillas run around. Boy are they sloooooow!

"Now, if I can just get this thing to cooperate!"
A quote from my human mom: "As any Basenji person will testify, this breed may be known as 'barkless', but they are
far from silent. Indie loves to 'ba-roo', yodel, grumble, and 'r-r-r-r', often as a signal to go out or wanting to play
and other times just to hear himself talk.
