Carrie says Spanish Water dogs are relatively new in the United States. These canines lived in Spain for hundreds of years and are thought to have been brought to the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors.
"They are rustic, hard working, intelligent dogs," Carrie said, "They excel in agility, herding,
hunting, retrieving and fishing and are highly intelligent."
Carrie said they also like to be the Alpha in the family so they need a strong master or mistress to whom they become exceptionally loyal.
"Our Fudge was born in Spain and was named 'Islena de Benamaina'," Carrie explained. "She came to the United States when she was 3-months-old and her job is to keep the
Canadian Geese off our property and send them back into the lake, a job she has done well.
Best of all, Fudge is a very loving pet."
