A note from the managers Oliver and Doreen:

"This is a very pet-friendly community. We ask only that people be responsible for their pets and pick up after them. No size restrictions for dogs, we love them all, big and small. Other companion animals, like kitty cats and birds are also welcome. We have even had a few lizards and hamsters. There are several places around here where you can take your pets to enjoy outdoor dining. Many of the shops allow you and your pet to shop together and most beaches allow dogs."

Note of 08-07-07: Another kind reader tells us there are pet-friendly areas on the beaches on Cedar Key. "One of the beaches is opposite the Faraway Inn. It is called Sand Spit Beach. The other is the main beach in the city park, directly in front of Park Place Condo's, on Dock St. I have seen dogs both on a leash and off; I think the only rules are that you clean up after your pet. There is also a couple of restaurant's on Dock St, one called Coconuts of Cedar Key, the other is Brian's Big Deck, where you can sit outside on the deck with your dog."

Note of 03-21-07 A kind reader had the following to say about a recent visit she and her dog made to this property:

"There are 2 or 3 dog friendly open air restaurants on Cedar Key. Can't remember names except Annie's on the pier. I have stayed at a wonderful and quaint Faraway Inn, where your pet is pampered. I was surprised to see a special towel with dog biscuits in the room when we arrived. There is a private beach at high tide (dog friendly), grooming station and poop bag stations. They are wonderful people. Cedar Key is the best place in my area I know of to have a relaxing weekend getaway with my Gizmo. Besides the Inn, beach and restaurants, the entire island is a great walkabout for us both."
