Venice1. Woodmere Paw Park Located at 3951 Merewood Blvd at Alligator Creek, off Woodmere, near Jacaranda. Hours are dawn to dusk. Offers fenced area, double-gated entrance, benches, tables, handicap access, trees, parking, restrooms, water, trash cans, double-gated small dog section near front gate, poop bags, dog shower, bulletin board. Reader Notes: "This park has plenty of room for both large and small dogs, fire hydrants, automatic water dishes that refill themselves, a time out pin for the naughty pups, a dog shower, plenty of benches and picnic tables, an air-conditioned restroom, drinking fountains, even enough room for the Greyhounds to run and play!" "I highly recommend this park for any and every one with dogs that need the extra room to run, jump, and play... for both the small and large breeds of dogs." 2. Brohard Paw Park Reader Notes: "This park is open all the time- not just Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can go there every day starting very early in the morning up until about 30 minutes after sunset. You can't imagine what it is like to sit on the beach with your dogs and watch amazing sunsets from this beach. At least 25 percent of the time when I am there for a sunset, I see dolphins cresting the waves. It's the most amazing dog park in this country, not just Florida!" "I declares this park and the beach discussed below to be the best dog friendly park in the state." "The one thing I wasn't certain about during my visit [to this dog park] was if there was any fence or boundary on the actual beach part, so I thought I would check it out. I was very impressed with the mixture of dogs of all sizes and everyone interacted very peacefully together on the beach. My concern was if my dog would start running down the beach and end up in Texas. So for certain I need to work on their obedience so they don't just run like the wind. "There was also a nice smaller fenced area in the dog park...not as large as the Bayshore dog park, but the setting here is gorgeous! The park area in general is awesome with a lot of family areas with playgrounds, area to walk, picnic tables, rest rooms, even a restaurant. My husband and I were walking through the dog park area that leads to the beach and remarked it was like being at Disney because of the nice walkways, benches and scenery." 3. South Brohard Park and Dog Beach ![]() this is the section of the beach that is dog-friendly. Open 7 days a week, 7:00 a.m. to dusk. This is a 300 foot section of beach behind the city's wastewater treatment plant. Offers boardwalk (dune walkover) to beach, fenced area, parking, trash cans, a drinking fountain and showers for dogs and fire hydrants and leash posts. Dogs must be on a leash or under voice control. Reader Notes: "This area is actually on Casperson Beach which is provided by the County Parks and Recreation Department. The area has a fenced in park area with a couple of pavillions, doggie shower and shaded hitching posts. Then you walk thru a second gate and take the boardwalk out to the beach. It's a very popular area. The dogs [and people] have a blast!" NOTE: We can't visit every area on a regular basis, so if you have information about any dog parks or beaches, or any other animal recreation facilities, in the Venice area, please contact FloridaPets.net. |
