We'd like to welcome our new subscribers and offer a warm welcome back to our current readers. We appreciate all of you! As owner of a pet-related Web site and eZine, I get lots of requests for pet-related information. If it's a medical question, I refer the person to their veterinarian. But there are many other topics of interest and until now, I've been offering information on an individual basis. It occurred to me recently I could address the most popular topics in eReports and offer these shorter, inexpensive versions of traditional eBooks to anyone interested in pets. So, I got busy and wrote a few, under the watchful eye of my little Shortcake, showing off her Halloween bandana in the photo above. I've completed three eReports so far and plan to prepare many more, covering a wide range of topics. These publications combine information based on both my experiences with our pets and my love of researching. If you'd like to see what eReports I've prepared, please go to FloridaPets.net eReports. In this month's issue, we feature a holiday jog for dogs, a vacation spot where you can have a "whale" of a good time, a photo of two up-and-coming dachshunds, some travel tips & tales, and FloridaPets.net's contest! This month we have a really cool prize. You could win an autographed copy of Florida author Vic Digenti's Windrusher, a story of a cat and his adventures. Be sure to check the end of the NewsPetter for all the poop on how to enter! Speaking of contests, we'd like to congratulate Charleen Henry of Casselberry, Florida, the winner of the October NewsPetter contest for a free phone consultation with renowned animal communicator, Flash Silvermoon. We hope everyone will enjoy this issue of the
NewsPetter. Please pass the word about
FloridaPets.net and write us with any suggestions or
requests. Until next month, thanks for "tailing" along
with us and remember our motto:

Special Note: If you cannot see the photographs in this NewsPetter, you are missing a lot of neat stuff! Some of our readers just can't get email in the HTML format that allows them to view pictures and other artwork, so we've come up with this solution:
Calling all canines and their people: the streets of downtown Orlando will be going "literally" to the dogs Friday, November 26, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. The Jingle Bell Dog Jog will give dogs and their guardians an opportunity to get into the holiday spirit. The Grand Marshal of the affair will be celebrity pet Oscar, the dog who knows more than 86 tricks. The event is being co-sponsored by the very neat Orlando Unleashed Magazine. The dog jog will start and end on Court Street, next to the Orange County Regional History Center. The jog will travel down Central Boulevard, Orange Avenue and Rosalind Avenue and back over to Central Boulevard. Kim Cousins, publisher of Orlando Unleashed, told us the dog jog will be terrific entertainment for people prior to The Amazing Kids Christmas Parade, Orlando's big, televised Christmas parade. Pets, kids and the mellow weather of November in Florida - who could ask for anything more?
Registration for Jingle Bell Dog Jog will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Court Street and end at 4:00 p.m. The starting whistle will blow promptly at 4:30 p.m. The fee is initially $18.00 per dog and additional dogs and family members are $5.00 each. Participating pet guardians will receive a Jingle Bell Dog Jog t-shirt, doggie bag for their pet, completion ribbon and jingle bells. Pet photos with Santa will also be available for $10.00 each. For more information about the dog jog, please call Orlando Unleashed at 407-293-1877. The purpose of the dog jog is to help support Pet Rescue by Judy. This 501c3 non-profit, no kill organization has been helping unwanted and neglected animals in Central Florida for eight years and operates solely on donations and volunteer help. For more information about the rescue or available animals, please call Judy Sarullo at 407-382-5991. Editor's Note: Since this is the first year for this event, we didn't have a photo to go along with the article. The above photo is being used with permission from People & Pet Park Inc., Honolulu, Hawaii, and with our appreciation.
By Patricia Collier Feeling a need for some peace and quiet, away from the fray? If so, the spot I've found for you this month dear readers, will make you sigh! The Whale Watch Motel in Flagler Beach is calling to election-weary folks like me. This is an area of Florida not-yet spoiled by development and where you can still stroll on an uncrowded beach. I lived in Flagler Beach 20 years ago and it's still a bit frozen in time - for now, that is. The Whale Watch Motel, located right on Florida's scenic A1A highway, is made up of four buildings, with a total of ten rooms. Some are efficiencies and some are cottages, with one of the latter pictured below. All have the standard amenities, including cable TV, but there are no phones in the room. Ahhh, nooo phones! Well, guests can use a public phone and if you just must connect further with the outside world, there is also high speed wireless internet access on the property for your lap top. ![]() Not only is the Whale Watch pet-friendly, but all the beaches in Flagler County allow leashed dogs. If you go to the Whale Watch, expect a $5.00 per night fee for dogs less than 25 pounds and a $10.00 per day fee for larger dogs. There is a limit of two small dogs or one large dog per room. There's lots of nature here and you can enjoy watching for whales and dolphins who are routinely spotted in the clean Atlantic Ocean waters right across the street from your window. Yes, I said clean - that's because there are no cars or buildings on the beach. If you want to busy up your trip a bit with a day trip, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Orlando, and Daytona Beach - all with a multitude of attractions - are close by. Whale Watch Inn owners, Barry and Patricia Griffin, tell us Flagler Beach is the last rural beach town on the east coast with a population under 5,000. I think sometime in the near future, we're going to have to temporarily increase that number to 5,002 and a few dogs to boot!
Grace Saavedra of Miramar, Florida, is the proud mom of two dachshunds who really like to ham it up. Maximus is the black and tan doxie, pictured on the left in this terrific black and white photo with his brother, PastaBatman. Both dogs were born in June of 2003. "They came into our lives right after we lost our previous family member, Bubu, also a dachshund," Grace said, "Not only did they help cheer us up, they also cracked us up with their antics and quickly 'butt- wiggled' their way into our hearts." These two little characters love wearing clothes, according to Grace, and attend many social events, especially those put on by the Humane Society of Broward County. "They like to see and be seen by their fellow wieners," Grace said. And as all of us can see, whenever Maximus and PastaBatman realize their picture is being taken, they put on their "seasoned model" poses. Can fashion week on the Paris runways be far off?
Bill and Cathy Collins of Daytona Beach credit having a photo of their dog along while traveling with him this past spring with how they avoided a sad outcome. The Collins's poodle, Cookie, got lost while they were visiting family in New York. They quickly did up a flyer on a computer, complete with Cookie's picture, posted copies everywhere and found their fur child within a day. Did you know? The $34 billion-a-year pet industry surpasses the toy industry by $14 billion a year. Here at FloridaPets.net, we want everyone to be able to show off their beloved companion animals. We offer two avenues for that, either as a Pet of the Week or as the topic of a special feature in our monthly NewsPetter. All animals selected as a Pet of the Week also receive a free Web page - designed by yours truly. If you have two or three photos, that would be terrific. Also, please send your pet's breed, age, sex, personality traits, likes and dislikes, how you found each other and anything else you would like to share about your companion.
So, if you haven't already done so, please share your pet with us by emailing WebMistress. Please type "Submission" in the subject line of your note and send your photos, in JPG or GIF format only. Thank you for sharing!
