    Greetings, everyone!

We'd like to welcome our new subscribers and extend a warm hello-back to our current subscribers. Happy summertime!

It's birthday month here at FloridaPets.net. I and two of our fur kids celebrate in July. Here's our Penny, looking like she had a wee bit too much of the party punch. Penny just turned seven, which is nearly 50 in human years. I, on the other hand, will soon be, well, let's just say a few dog years are involved...mumble, mumble...mumble...

We continue to work on our FloridaPets.net 2005 Pet-Friendly Hurricane Shelter Guide. For areas without any shelters allowing animals, we'll try to list nearby motels that will accept pets during evacuations. Remember, some pet-friendly shelters aren't designated until the last minute, so please check out the above link, bookmark it and keep referring to it if a storm approaches your area.

    Pet-Friendly Activity
    Lazy Dog

    Dogs n' Hogs

Just been lying around this summer like our friend, Bobby? If so, the 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Celebration is a great way to get both you and your dog off the couch. The event will be held at Fletcher's Harley-Davidson in Clearwater on Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Professional pet photographer Laura Allen will be on hand to take your pet's photo for a $5 donation to the SPCA of Pinellas County. Not only will Fletcher's generously match all donations, they'll be offering 15% off all Harley-Davidson pet related products.

A canine café will serve water and biscuits to the four-legged guests and free Sky Blue soda will be provided for all human attendees. During August, Fletcher's will offer a free Harley-Davidson dog collar to all who adopt a dog from the SPCA. Just bring in your adoption papers. Fletcher's Harley Davidson is located at 17129 US19 North in Clearwater, just north of Roosevelt Boulevard.

Editor's Note: Bobby was a February, 2005 Pet of the Week on FloridaPets.net.

    Pet-Friendly Get-Away
    St. Francis Inn

    A Haunting Summer Vacation
    By Patricia Collier

The St. Francis Inn Bed & Breakfast in St. Augustine was built in 1791 and when you're that old, you deserve to have some ghosts rattling around in your closet. The St. Francis Inn will not disappoint in that department. An official ghost investigation was actually conducted at the Inn in February of 2002 with "positive results." You can read more about the study at Left Field Paranormal Studies & Investigations.

Besides having a intriquing past and being a lovely, quiet place to relax in the present, it is our pick for the pet-friendly vacation spot for July. St. Augustine is the nation's oldest city, dating back to 1565 and St. Francis Inn Bed & Breakfast sits right in the middle of all the current-day activity. Amenities include rooms and suites decorated with antiques, fireplaces, jacuzzis, a swimming pool, private balconies, gourmet breakfasts, bicycles and even complimentary transportation for evening activities.

Cats and dogs weighing no more than 45 pounds are permitted if they are well-behaved. There is a $10 nightly pet fee and guests are required to sign a declaration of responsibility for any damages caused by their pet.
