    Greetings, everyone!

    Wow, it's hard to believe this is the 10th issue of the FloridaPets.net "NewsPetter." Our subscriber list is growing faster than we had imagined and the Web site continues to blossom as we add more and more content every day. If you haven't checked out the site lately, you will be surprised at all the new goodies we've found for you and your companion animal.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    We try hard to cover pet-friendly spots and happenings in all areas of Florida, but of course we are limited by the fact that we can't be everywhere. That's why we're searching for a few people to act as "News Hounds" and help us add even more information and resources to FloridaPets.net.

    If you live in one of the following areas, are familiar with pet-friendly places and events there, and can spare a couple of hours each month, we'd like to talk with you:

    * Daytona Beach
    * Ft. Myers/Ft. Myers Beach
    * Miami/Miami Beach/Ft. Lauderdale
    * Ocala
    * Orlando
    * Panama City /Pensacola
    * The Tampa Bay area, including St. Petersburg/St. Petersburg Beach, Sarasota, etc.

    Interested? Email me at WebMistress@FloridaPets.net.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    In this month's issue we feature a pet-friendly, six-story hotel on one of the world's most famous beaches, an event of the furry kind you won't want to miss, an artistic photo from one of our readers that proves cats and dogs can be pals, a few travel tips and more.

    We hope you enjoy this issue of the NewsPetter. Please pass the word about FloridaPets.net and write us with any suggestions or requests. Until next month, thanks for "tailing" along with us and remember our motto: "They're part of the family, so take them along!"

    Special Note: If you cannot see the photographs in this NewsPetter, you are missing out on a lot of neat stuff! Some of our readers just can't get email in the HTML format that allows them to view pictures and other artwork, so we've come up with this solution.

    Put Some 'Furry' In Your 'Skurry'!
    By Patricia Collier

    The Suncoast Humane Society, the Venice Herald Tribune, Big Dog Sportswear and Grand Venetian Aviation proudly present the 6th Annual Furry Skurry, scheduled for Saturday, March 27.

    The 2004 event will be held at its new location, John Nolan Park on the Island of Venice. This beautiful downtown park is located one block from Venice City Hall on Av Des Parques which is off West Venice Avenue. Parking for the event will be at city hall and downtown at the public parking at Centennial Park.

    The day's activities kick off with the annual BIG DOGS Pet Walk at 8:00 a.m. All pets, big and small, and their guardians are encouraged to participate in the walk, along with local celebrities, and help raise funds for the programs and services offered by the Suncoast Humane Society shelter.

    This year's pet walk route will go through downtown, towards Venice beach on Venice Avenue. Pet Walk pledge forms are available at the shelter, the Paw Prints Retail store in Venice or online at http://www.humane.org.

    Have A Doggone Good Time in Daytona
    By Patricia Collier

    At Quality Inn Ocean Palms Hotel in Daytona Beach Shores, you'll find time to treat yourself and your companion animal to lots of relaxation. The photo at left gives you an idea of the welcoming nature of the facility.

    General Manager, Tim Fraser, said one of the cool things about his hotel is that, while there are about 8,000 rooms in Daytona Beach, not many welcome pets.

    "We're nothing special, just an oceanfront property," Fraser said, "but we do enjoy the animals."

    In fact, according to Fraser, the entire Quality Inn franchise is pet-friendly.

    As you can see in the photo below, Quality Inn Ocean Palms Hotel offers colorful accomodations and a view not easily surpassed. Amenities include a heated pool, refrigerators, a game room, even dataports for those of you who can't stay away from the computer for long, and much more.

    For those of you who need a whirlwind of activity, Quality Inn offers golf and "Broadway and the Beach" packages. Daytona Beach isn't far from major attractions, including Orlando theme parks, Daytona International Speedway, at least six different museums and much more.

    Fraser said room rates are "mid-scale" and there is a $10 per night fee for pets.

    "But we limit that charge to five days, so a guest here would only be charged $50, even if they stayed for a week," he said.

    There's no size limit, but guardians are expected to keep their pals leashed and under control during their stay.

    Although dogs are not allowed on the beach in front of the hotel, Fraser said they are permitted at the Ponce Inlet Park, a Volusia county facility about six miles south of the hotel.

    Together in Purrrfect Harmony

    Meet Bear and Zoe, companions to Iman and Stuart Haddad. Bear is a 1 1/2-year-old Bichon/Shi-tzu mix who loves curling up with his feline sister or playing hide and seek with his bone. As a matter of fact, if you look closely at this photo, it looks like Bear might be nibbling on Zoe's arm, which is decidely not a bone!

    But according to Iman, the two animals get along wonderfully. "They love to wrestle together and groom each other," she said.

    Iman is a budding pet photographer and if this photo is an example of her talent, we think she's going to do just fine! Thanks for sharing, Iman.

    Travel Tips and Facts
    Nancy Solomon and her two Yorkie divas shared this fantastic tip: "When traveling, add the phone number of wherever you are staying, i.e., hotel, motel, friends', etc., to your pet's collar."

    "We do this because if something terrible happens, rescuers would be calling our home or work and we'd be at our travel destination," Nancy said, "Plus, sometimes cells go dead or we can't get a signal."

    Psssttt...check out the front page of FloridaPets.net for a photo of Nancy's little ladies, all dressed up and ready to go...to some hot spot in Florida, of course!

    Joan from Orlando wrote us to say, "In many areas near the ocean, there are briars in the vegetation. You need to watch and make sure you pluck these "stickers", as I call them, from your dog's fur as they can get imbedded, be very painful, and sometimes get infected."

    We at FloridaPets.net offer this tip: Please do not travel with your pet without a handy supply of pooper scoopers. The main complaint we hear from motels/hotels about pets is the guardian's lack of cleaning up after them. We animal people need to be extra courteous, convincing more and more establishments to welcome our fur kids. So please..."do what you do do, with that doo-doo, so well!"

    Syn-flex, A Non-Drug Answer for Cat and Dog Arthritis

    "I am simply...impressed with this product. Thank you!"
    - George S., and Sinbad, the Rottie, current Syn- flex customers.

    As the owners of FloridaPets.net and guardians to both dogs and cats, we try a lot of different products. We recommend very few to others because we're pretty picky.

    Last summer, our 10-year-old dog, J.R., started showing signs of arthritis. He slowed down quite a bit and we often heard that familiar "Umph" sound as he got up and down.

    We started J.R. on a small dose of Syn-flex every day and now, he mostly gets it every other day. He acts like a dog five years younger! We did a lot of research about this product before making our initial purchase and learned Syn-flex is made of natural ingredients and not only helps ease pain, it actually rebuilds cartlidge and renews joints.

    We are thrilled with Syn-flex and think you will be too, if you give it a try. To read more about Syn-flex and our experience with it, visit FloridaPets.net Product Picks.

    Syn-flex normally sells for up to $30.00 a bottle and, from what we've seen, around $25.00, including shipping, on eBay. We've made a special bulk purchase that allows us to offer it to FloridaPets.net readers for $19.95, plus a small charge for shipping. If you'd like to try Syn-flex for your dog or cat, you can order securely at FloridaPets.net.

    Your total satisfaction is important to us and so, if you purchase Syn-flex from us and do not see an improvement in your companion animal's condition after using Syn-flex faithfully for a month, contact us and we will refund your money, no questions asked.
