Note: Dogs are not permitted on area beaches. Trust us, there is little tolerance for dogs on public beaches in Brevard County, as reflected by comments we receive from readers and from editorials we read in area media outlets.
Mitchell Ellington Park
Note of 08-25-06: According to Brevard Animal Recreation Club, Inc. (BARC), the Brevard County Commission did not make a motion to include funding in the 2006 Parks & Recreation Referendum for the proposed off-leash dog parks that are without necessary financial resources. In an effort to affect more change in this county, BARC sent a questionnaire to all commissioners to ascertain their level of commitment for developing and funding future pet-friendly areas in Brevard County. You can see the results here.
Note of 08-13-06: One of our readers tell us this park is still on the drawing table; it's been approved but there's no money to build it. Our reader says people interested in getting this dog park built should contact Brevard County Commissioners and ask them to include funding for all the proposed dog parks in the 2006 referendum, or else it could be a long time before they are built.
Note of 12-07-05: County officials verified in a news article there are plans to develop this park and there will be a fee to use it. More to come.
Note of 06/03/05: According to our research, land has been designated for this park, but a timetable has not been set and funding efforts have not yet been announced. We'll post info as we receive it.
NOTE: We can't visit every area on a regular basis, so if you have information about any dog parks or beaches, or any other animal recreation facilities, in the Merritt Island area, please contact FloridaPets.net.
