Hollywood

1. Dog Beach of Hollywood

Located between Pershing and Custer Streets. This beach is now open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. EDT. We've been told a one-day pass costs $5 for Hollywood residents and $10 for non-city residents. An unlimited use pass until April 30, 2008 is $30 for Hollywood residents and $125 for non-Hollywood residents. Visitors should enter the beach only at Pershing Street and sign in with the ranger on duty.

Note from Web Mistress: Dog guardians in Hollywood have struggled for some time to make this beach a reality. While trying to organize a small place for people to exercise with their dogs, they received much resistance from beachfront homeowners who curiously think they also own the beach. Despite the group having to jump through all kinds of hoops to make this dog-friendly area a reality, permission for the dog beach will be contingent upon a review every six months. So please, if you're going to visit this beach, follow the rules and don't make it even harder on those who worked to get a good thing going and don't give the naysayers any ammunition.

2. Broward County Parks

Note of 04-23-05: Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed to visit all Broward County Parks except the following Nature Centers: Anne Kolb, Secret Woods, Fern Forest, Tall Cypress, Hillsboro Pineland, and Deerfield Island.

3. Poinciana Dog Park

Located at Dixie Highway (21st Avenue) and Plunkett Street. Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Has benches, fences, handicap access, lights, parking, phone, poop bags and receptacles, restrooms, shelters, picnic tables, trees, trash cans and water. There is also a nearby children's playground and basketball court.

Note of 05-04-06: A kind reader says this is a very nice, open space dog park, fenced and gated, where dogs can run unleashed.

4. Topeekeegee Yugnee Park
(T.Y. Park)

Located at 3300 N. Park Road, corner of Sheridan Street. Offers picnic areas, lakeside gazebos all with water, electricity, grills, a swimming lagoon, which includes a waterfall, bathhouse, a freshwater beach, a water playground, boats for rent, tennis and basketball courts, biking/jogging path and concessions. All pets are welcome. This park has cool activities for dogs such as obedience, flyball and frisbee classes. For more information, call 954-985-1980.
Note from Web Mistress: Thanks to the nice reader who let us know about this park.

NOTE: We can't visit every area on a regular basis, so if you have information about any dog parks or beaches, or any other animal recreation facilities, in the Hollywood area, please contact FloridaPets.net.
