Cocoa BeachNote: Dogs are not permitted on area beaches. Trust us, there is little tolerance for dogs on public beaches in Brevard County, as reflected by comments we receive from readers and from editorials we read in area media outlets. Lori Wilson Park Dog Park Note of 02-08-08: One of our readers tell us there will no longer be any fees or attedants at this dog park. Note of 07-28-06: This park's grand opening was held July 23, 2006. Note of 06-05-06: Brevard County Parks & Recreation officials are asking people to not start bringing their dogs to this park yet - it is not yet open and even after it does open, dogs will only be allowed in the off-leash dog park area. Note of 12-07-05: County officials verified in a news article there are plans to develop this park and there will be a fee to use it. More to come. Note of 07/09/05: This park is in the early planning stages and is not yet named. According to our research, Cocoa Beach and Brevard County will be working on what is to be a $75,000 dog park near the south entrance of Lori Wilson Park. What we think is cool is that it's going to truly be a joint effort; the city will pay for fencing, irrigation and utility hook-ups and the county will handle day-to-day operations and maintenance once the park is built. The 29,700-square-foot area that will be designated for the dog park will be in the grassy area between Atlantic Avenue and the parking lot. The park will include doggie bag stations, restrooms and drinking fountains for humans, fencing and separate areas for small and large dogs section. It's likely there will be an entrance fee of around $2.00 for up to three dogs, which is what's in place at Satellite Beach's dog park. NOTE: We can't visit every area on a regular basis, so if you have information about any dog parks or beaches, or any other animal recreation facilities, in the Cocoa Beach area, please contact FloridaPets.net.
